Unisys Computer Hardware Unit Fights to Resist Spinoff.(Originated from The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Sep. 29--George R. Gazerwitz has a few words for those who believe his computer hardware unit in Unisys Corp. should be ditched by new CEO Larry Weinbach.

"We're not a bunch of plodders," said Gazerwitz, president of Computer Systems Group. "We want to grow. Our strategy is not to protect; it's to open and grow."

And then he launches into a list of research projects, accolades and names of companies or government agencies worldwide that rely on mainframe computers from his 9,000 employees -- 1,500 of whom work in Tredyffrin, Malvern or Blue Bell.

If Grazerwitz sounds a little defensive, that's because he is.

His business unit, the Computer Systems Group, has been profitable -- in fact the most profitable in Unisys --...
