Apple CEO Asks Electronic Publishing Industry to Put Trust in Him.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

SAN FRANCISCO--Oct. 3--"Trust me for a few months. You'll see."
That was Steve Jobs' plea Thursday in speech that more resembled a religious revival than a status update from an interim CEO.
There was the call to faith -- Jobs wouldn't divulge Apple Computer Inc.'s new product plans but hinted at fast, low-cost computers that he said would debut early next year.
There were testimonials -- from important allies John Warnock of Adobe Systems Inc., Tim Gill of Quark Inc. and Bud Colligan of Macromedia Inc. They praised Jobs and indicated renewed faith in the company responsible for the desktop publishing revolution.
