Sprint Wireless Service to Begin in San Francisco Bay Area.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

Oct. 7--Building on its national telephone network, Sprint is introducing wireless phone service in the Bay Area Thursday with discounted packages of local and long-distance calling.

Sprint's service will not be the least expensive for the bare-bones user. A similar offering from Pacific Bell is about $5 less per month. However, it does provide the deepest discounts locally for those who travel or make numerous long-distance calls from their wireless phones.

The three levels of service offered by Sprint are: $25 per month for 25 free minutes of airtime, with each additional minute costing 25 cents; $40 for 300 free minutes, with each additional minute costing 20 cents; and $70 for 700 free minutes, with each additional minute costing 15...
