Casino Legal Battle Draws Near Close in Mississippi.(Originated from The Sun Herald, Biloxi, Miss.)

GULFPORT, Miss.--Oct. 16--Attorneys on both sides of the $200 million legal battle between the Copa Casino and the State Port Authority expect to finish questioning witnesses Friday before the case goes to Chancery Court Judge Jason Floyd.
At stake is whether the casino will remain on port property after 1999, when the Port Authority wants to terminate the Copa's lease. The Copa countersued the Port Authority after the port sued to terminate the casino's lease.
Copa attorneys say lease provisions would allow the casino to stay open until the year 2014 and to 2024 if a hotel is built.
Pete Cladianos, president and CEO of Sands Regent, which owns the Copa, took the witness stand Wednesday for the first time since the trial began...
