Enron, Pennsylavania Hospital Trade Group Agree on Energy-Savings Deal.(Originated from The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Nov. 12--Enron Corp., the Texas firm challenging Peco Energy Co. for primacy in Pennsylvania's deregulating electricity market, has struck a deal with the area's largest hospital trade group that could provide energy savings of 20 percent or more for its members.

The deal between Enron and the Delaware Valley Healthcare Council isn't based on lower electrical rates. Rather, Enron has agreed to advise the council's 150 members on ways to save money by cutting consumption and financing equipment without buying it.

Savings are critical to hospitals, which face their own stiffening competition, declining insurer reimbursements and pressures from managed-care providers to cut costs.
