Toys R Us Remodels Stores to Woo Customers, Make Shopping Easier.(Originated from The Kansas City Star, Mo.)

Nov. 28--When Toys R Us launched the "category killer" style of retailing more than 40 years ago, its stores were about as attractive as the cardboard boxes in which its toys were shipped.

The retailer piled its products from floor-to-ceiling. Lighting was dim, and store designs were drab. Customers complained they couldn't see from one aisle to the next.

But now, as the millennium approaches, shoppers want more than discounts and selections from their retail stores. They want attractive shops that make shopping easy. Toys R Us hopes to give it to them with its new Concept 2000 stores.

The new Olathe Toys R Us by the Great Mall of the Great Plains is a Concept 2000 store. The Overland Park location at 95th Street and Quivira Road...
