ST. PETERSBURG--Nov. 26--Florida Power Corp. is moving its headquarters back to downtown St. Petersburg after 25 years, spreading 900 workers among three buildings, including vacant retail space that was the cornerstone of the ill-fated Bay Plaza redevelopment project.
The downtown relocation was cobbled together in the past two months after the company sold its corporate headquarters in southern St. Petersburg to ABR Information Services Inc. in October for $13.5-million. The 383,000-square-foot 34th Street S location has been Florida Power's headquarters since 1972.
The electric utility's new base of operations will be the 27-story Barnett Tower, which is also the home of the company's parent, Florida Progress Corp. About 140 people,...
