Video Game Industry Enjoys Rebirth this Season.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

Nov. 30--After two years of an almost funeral-like demeanor, a rebirth of sorts is taking place in the video game industry.

It is not unlike Mario gaining a new life after grabbing a magic ring. The resurgence is powered by the quick and steady emergence of Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation as the industry's leading hardware platform, the arrival of Nintendo's N64 home console machine, and some groundbreaking new games.

Gaming experts who questioned whether home consoles would be able to compete with personal computers are now backpedaling. Sony began the process with release of the PlayStation in mid-1995, followed by the N64 in October 1996.
