California-Based Soy Company Moves Tofu Maker to New Ayer, Mass., Plant.

AYER, Mass.--Apr. 1--A thousand miles separate this town from the Iowa fields where soybeans grow, making it an unlikely locale for one of America's largest makers of soy-based organic food products.

On the other hand, the Nasoya Foods Inc. factory here is less than an hour's ride from Cambridge, which, according to Yvonne Lo, is "pretty much the mecca of tofu consumption in the United States."

"Perhaps tofu is a brain food for the intellectual," she said, referring to the Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology communities.
