Telecommunications Millionaire Warner Backs Tech Firms in Southwest Virginia.

ROANOKE--May 9--Promising businesses in southwest Virginia now have somewhere besides banks to turn for financing.

Telecommunications millionaire Mark Warner and about 70 private investors from southwest Virginia have established a venture capital fund that will invest nearly $6 million in new and expanding businesses in the region, particularly high-tech companies.

Southwest One, based at Virginia Tech's Corporate Research Center, is one of only a handful of venture capital funds in the country that focuses on a region, Mr. Warner said.
