Synovus Financial President Named Chairman of Columbus, Ga., Bank's Board.

Aug. 18--James Yancey was named chairman of the board of directors Monday for Columbus Bank and Trust Co.

Yancey will continue to serve as president of Synovus Financial Corp., which is CB&T's parent company.

"Jim Yancey is a strong leader and the best banker I've ever known," said Stephen Melton, chief executive of CB&T.

Yancey joined CB&T in 1959, serving in management positions including president and vice chairman. He is a graduate of Columbus State University, Louisiana State University and Rutgers University's Stonier School of Banking.

Synovus, with $9.4 billion in assets, owns 34 banks in Georgia, Alabama, Florida and South Carolina. It also owns 80.7 percent of Columbus-based Total System...
