Study Shows Columbus, Ga., Hospitals Pump $827 Million into City's Economy.

Aug. 25--Hospitals in Columbus pumped $827 million into the city's economy in 1996, according to a new study by the Georgia Hospital Association.

The statewide study measured the impact of hospitals in eight Georgia cities and their surrounding regions.

Overall, Georgia hospitals contributed $24 billion to the state's economy in 1996, the study found. Data for 1997 wasn't available. The study was commissioned by the GHA, which represents 180 hospitals and medical organizations in Georgia, and conducted by Georgia State University.

Columbus Regional's Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital, Hughston Sports Medicine Center, Doctors Hospital and West Central Georgia Regional Hospital were included in the study....
