Kansas City, Mo., Phone Carrier Buys City's Oldest Internet Provider.

Sep. 18--Kansas City's newest telephone carrier, Birch Telecom, said this week that it had purchased Kansas City's oldest Internet service provider, TFSnet Inc.

The marriage of voice and data services -- now a prerequisite for any communications company -- puts another leg under Birch's strategy to become a one-stop communications provider for small businesses in Kansas and Missouri.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. But TFSnet, established 11 years ago, is one of the larger Internet service providers in the area, with more than $1 million in revenue, according to Walt Lane, the company's president. He declined to say how many customers TFSnet serves.
