GOP, White House Still at Odds on How to Reform International Monetary Fund.

Oct. 10--Republican leaders and the White House said yesterday they were intent on forging a compromise funding bill for the International Monetary Fund, but were still far apart on how to reform the international lender.

"We'll get there," said House Majority Leader Dick Armey, the IMF's chief critic, who singlehandedly held up the funding bill for months until he signaled this week that he is ready to reach an accommodation with the White House.

The Texas Republican said the IMF dispute was one of 15 major issues GOP leaders and the White House must resolve before Congress can adjourn for the year. "These are not unknown quantities. These are things that can be settled," he said.
