Oct. 20--AS A STOCK, SHIVA CORP. was damaged goods for two years before Intel Corp. came along and agreed to buy the Bedford-based computer networking company this week.
Its competitive future in doubt, Shiva had seen its stock sink steadily from more than $80 per share to astonishing single-digit lows. Intel's final offer: $6 per share.
But there are many other technology companies that have plunged into stock slumps nearly as dire this year, and only in a matter of months.
Local companies that have lost 50 percent to 75 percent of their stock value over the last year number in the dozens. They have all suffered some kind of setback, but many remain viable businesses with solid balance sheets....
