General Motors Picks New Labor Relations Leader.

Oct. 27--Three months after the devastating strikes in Flint, General Motors Corp. shook up its labor strategy Monday, putting Gary Cowger in charge of labor relations.
Cowger, 51, was elected vice president and group executive for labor relations. He replaces Gerald Knechtel, 57, who is retiring Feb. 1 after 35 years with GM.
Cowger has been chairman of Adam Opel AG, GM's German carmaking company, since June 19. The Kansas City, Mo., native is regarded as a seasoned engineer who can bring a factory-floor perspective to GM's inner circle of senior leaders, who tend to have more financial savvy than manufacturing insights.
