Satellite Phone Launch Propels Iridium's Stock.

Nov. 9--Last week Iridium LLC began operating its telecommunications system and became the first company that offers telephones that can operate anywhere in the world through a satellite network. Pagers will soon follow.

Now investors will measure the District-based company based upon how many subscribers it acquires since its network began operating a week ago.

Before the network was operating, the company's stock, which trades on the Nasdaq exchange under the symbol IRIDF, was valued on the uniqueness of the company's technology, analysts say.
