Disney World Gets Federal Mediator to Help Negotiate Labor Contract.

Nov. 10--Walt Disney World and its largest union called in a federal mediator Monday to help negotiate a new contract covering 22,000 hourly workers.

Members of the Service Trades Council Union, a coalition of six unions representing hourly workers, voted down the first contract offer last week. That offer would have increased wages while making many workers pay more for health insurance.

In their first meeting with Disney since that defeat, union leaders Monday asked Disney to keep offering three managed care health plans for free to employees. Disney was proposing to make employees pay for two of the three plans.
