Nov. 12--The chip market will rebound in 1999, recovering most of the ground lost in a worldwide slump this year, an industry trade association predicted Wednesday.
In its annual forecast, the Semiconductor Industry Association said it expects the semiconductor market to grow 9.1 percent in 1999 with sales of about $133.4 billion. The pace will increase with 15.2 percent growth in 2000 and 18.2 percent growth in 2001.
The association said sales will increase as the industry controls its manufacturing surplus, prices for memory chips stabilize, and demand for personal computers grows.
Chip sales dropped 10.9 percent in 1998, according to the SIA, which had predicted double-digit growth.
