Dec. 3 -- Can Charlie Sarkis do what Joey Crugnale couldn't?

Earlier this year Crugnale made a bid to take his publicly held restaurant chain, Bertucci's Inc., private. But another company, NE Restaurant Co., topped his offer and won the Wakefield-based pizza chain. Crugnale walked away with more than $20 million as a consolation prize.

Now, Sarkis is bidding to buy back his company, publicly held Back Bay Restaurant Group Inc. in Boston, operator of popular restaurants such as Papa Razzi, Joe's American Bar & Grill, and Charley's Eating & Drinking Saloon.
