Superstore Trend Claims Boston-area Music Store Chain.

Dec. 9 -- E.U. Wurlitzer Inc., a local chain that according to legend helped equip such rock groups as the Cars and the J. Geils Band, appears to be closing its seven stores, a possible victim of superstore chains entering the music instrument business.

At one Wurlitzer store near Boston's Berklee College of Music, signs read, "Sale on everything," and clerks were telling customers yesterday that the store would close once all the inventory has been sold.

At another store reached by phone, all inquiries about Wurlitzer's fate were referred to Schottenstein/Bernstein Capital Group LLC, the Ohio company that liquidated the Lechmere consumer electronics chain last year.
