BellSouth Confident About Meeting Deadline for Y2K Problem Repairs.

Dec. 9 -- ATLANTA -- BellSouth is confident about fixing and testing its Y2K bugs, but according to its recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company still has plenty to do.
"We will be there," said Robert J. Marmorato, who is with the company's Year 2000 program management office. He was referring to the company's June 30, 1999, target for a complete fixing and testing of vital components.
Marmorato said he couldn't disclose the number of mission-critical systems at BellSouth, nor would the company say how many embedded chips it has to fix.
The company has also inventoried everything, including 4,000 buildings, 70,000 desktops, 2,500 voice switches and 8,000 servers,...
