Scottish and Southern Energy to Build Status as Dominant Player in Britain.

Dec. 16 -- Newly merged electricity giant Scottish and Southern Energy will eschew the fashion for growth through foreign empire building and concentrate on building its status as a dominant player in Britain.
The Perth-headquartered group, headed by chief executive Jim Forbes and the result of the UKpound 5 billion combination of Southern Electric and Scottish Hydro-Electric, said its earnings will remain 100 percent "made in Britain".
Finance director Ian Marchant said: "Our main focus is UK. We are not going to do a National Grid or Scottish Power and plunge into a major American takeover. We are not convinced that with the regulatory and transactional risk involved that is the right thing to do for our...
