Nissan's Concept Cars Look Back, Ahead.

Jan. 6 -- Nissan Motor Corp. unveiled two concept cars on Tuesday in an attempt to revitalize its watered-down image and reconnect with American consumers who have lately ignored the first Japanese automakers to catch on in the United States.

Although the retro-inspired Z Concept and the futuristic Sport-Utility Truck won't likely hit dealerships for at least 18 months, the new vehicles must start boosting Nissan's identity immediately.

Nissan has lost money in six of the past seven years, and the company is foundering beneath a staggering $37 billion in interest-bearing debt. An Asian economic meltdown has decimated sales in Nissan's home market, and the automaker's North American product lineup is not...
