Northwest Airlines' Quarterly Loss Shows Effects of Strike.

Jan. 20 -- Northwest Airlines on Tuesday reported a $181 million loss for its fourth quarter, attributing the dismal results to the lingering effects of a 15-day pilots' strike and slowdown in its Asian Pacific business.
But securities analysts expect Northwest to financially recover this year, predicting the Eagan-based carrier will post profits of more than $3 per share if it wraps up the last of its open labor contracts.
Company Chief Financial Officer Mickey Foret said Wall Street's consensus forecast that Northwest will post earnings of about $3.40 per share "is not irrational," assuming the airline is not rocked by further labor troubles and does not face any unforeseen economic downturn.
