Intel Benches Two Super Bowl Ads for New Pentium Chip.

Jan. 28 -- Intel has decided to pull its Super Bowl ads for the new Pentium III chip just days before Sunday's kickoff.

The decision to pull the spots comes after privacy issues were raised about the Pentium III, which includes technology that allows Internet Web sites to identify visitors' computers.

Intel officials, however, say the ads were withdrawn because of the time between the Super Bowl and the launch of the new product in the spring.

"We just decided that launching (the Pentium III campaign) on the Super Bowl was just a little early," said Intel spokeswoman Joann OBrien. "We want to pull the campaign in closer to the launch date."
