Houston-Based Voice Recognition Software Maker Gets New Name, New Focus.

Feb. 23 -- Applied Voice Recognition, a Houston-based speech-to-text company that's struggled to find a niche for itself in a fiercely competitive market, on Monday changed its name to e-Docs to reflect a focus on medical document transcription.

Tim Connolly, e-Docs co-founder and chief executive, said the company will use its voice-recognition technology to provide rapid transcription services to medical professionals.

Customers will be provided with a handheld recorder that includes a chip for voice recognition, Connolly said. They'll speak into the device, then send the sound files to e-Docs' transcription service, with typed documents returned within 24 hours.
