Kansas-Based Collins Industries Serves Strong Niche of Small-Bus Buyers.

Mar. 1 -- HUTCHINSON, Kan. -- When the city of Boulder, Colo., began investigating ways to improve its public transportation system, a group of citizens asked themselves what would be the perfect style of bus.
They found their answer in Hutchinson -- a World Trans 3000 manufactured by Collins Industries Inc.
"Collins really worked with us to create the bus that we wanted," said Penny Puskarich, transit project coordinator for the city of Boulder.
Since the city replaced the traditional 40-foot-long transit buses with the 26-foot bus from Collins, the number of riders has doubled, Puskarich said. Passengers like the lower entryway onto the bus, the upholstered seats and the large windows that...
