New Jersey Regulators Delay Decision on Public Service Electric & Gas Co..

Apr. 15 -- One more week. That's all it needs to restructure the rates New Jersey's largest electricity company will charge 2 million customers once energy deregulation starts Aug. 1.
The state's Board of Public Utilities, which was expected to decide Public Service Electric & Gas Co.'s rates yesterday, put off its decision until next Wednesday, citing the complexity of the issue and a desire to make sure it gets right the first major energy deregulation since the law was struck February.
But the delay has some in the energy industry concerned.
They warn that if the crucial ground rules for competition aren't spelled out by the BPU soon, the utility companies may not be able to set up the computer...
