Sprint Offers Package of Wireless Phone, Internet Services.

May 4 -- Businesses and consumers could see their choices for phone service and high-speed Internet access multiply early next year, following Sprint's announcement Monday of a wireless package to compete in the Bay Area with Pacific Bell and AT&T technologies.
Sprint, the nation's third-largest long-distance company, said Monday it is buying Videotron USA and Transworld Telecommunications Inc. for $210 million. These purchases and two similar acquisitions will help Sprint offer a bundle of local and long-distance phone and Internet services via a dish-shaped receiver to more than 24 million households across the country, company officials say, with deployments starting by next March.
