May 12 -- NEW BID FOR NABISCO PLANT: The city, Allegheny County and the Steel Valley Authority have made a new formal bid to buy Nabisco's closed Pittsburgh bakery, the company confirmed yesterday.
"We are interested and we'll be getting back to them for further discussion, Nabisco spokeswoman Ann Smith said yesterday.
The government coalition wants to buy the factory and lease it to an operator that would hire some of the 250 employees who were laid off last year. It made a $7.1 million bid in April but Nabisco said then it had received a better offer.
The latest offer apparently includes a higher price, but Nabisco declined to discuss the terms. Smith, however, said the local bid is not the only...
