Spartanburg, S.C.-Based Grocery Chain Sells Out to Virginia's Acme Markets.

May 13 -- Focusing on a loyal following of core customers, Community Cash has emphasized personal service and a hometown feel at its grocery stores.
But on Wednesday, the 78-year-old, Spartanburg-based independent chain announced it is cashing out for good.
Community Cash -- which grew from a single wholesale hay and feed store to a peak number of 40 locations in the 1980s -- is selling its business to Acme Markets of Virginia Inc.
For retired Community Cash employee Richard Horton, word of the pending sale was bad news.
