BellSouth to Build Cable, Internet Service in Miami Area.

May 24 -- While AT&T has begun buying up cable companies to get a direct link into consumers' homes, BellSouth has pursued a different route in its quest to become a super-carrier that offers not only phone service but also cable TV and high-speed Internet access.

"What we are going to do is is build from within," said Spero Canton, a BellSouth spokesman.

This summer will be a time of rapid expansion for BellSouth in South Florida. It will introduce BellSouth Entertainment, its cable television service, and it plans to expand its ADSL high-speed Internet access service into Miami-Dade County.
