Jun. 3 -- New Jersey's largest power company is once again positioning itself for a bruising battle with rivals in other states about the pollution coming out of their smokestacks.

Public Service Electric & Gas -- a relatively clean energy producer as far as air pollution goes because of its reliance on nuclear power -- yesterday joined a group of Northeast utilities in releasing for the first time data detailing the amount of toxins their power plants spew into the air each year.

And they said the nation's utilities ought to be telling the public a lot more about the dangerous chemicals that go up their smokestacks.

More significantly, the utilities backed a call by a national environmental group...
