US Airways, Machinists Agree on New Labor Contract.

Jun. 8 -- US Airways and the International Association of Machinists have reached a tentative settlement on a new labor contract for 7,025 mechanics and related workers.

Details of the agreement, reached in the early morning hours of Sunday and announced yesterday, were withheld pending a ratification vote by the union's membership.

The settlement would cover some 2,240 IAM members in Pittsburgh, US Airways' largest maintenance center. The airline operates another major facility in Charlotte, N.C., and a smaller secondary facility in Tampa, Fla.

The agreement has been a long time coming. The airline's mechanics have been working under a contract that has been open for amendment since Oct. 1, 1995....
