Online Music Programming Possible after EMI Internet Acquisition.

Jun. 11 -- Music giant EMI Group snapped up half of Internet music company Musicmaker.com yesterday, creating the largest online music entity to let users program their own CDs.

As part of the $15 million deal, EMI will begin licensing its vast catalogue of music from its high-profile acts -- which feature artists such as the Spice Girls, the Beatles and Frank Sinatra. Consumers can select the songs they want from EMI's library to create CDs with music of their choice.

As the industry moves toward safe and secure methods of digital music distribution -- letting users purchase songs by downloading them from the Internet -- EMI plans to offer its music for sale as early as this year's holiday shopping season....
