Jun. 16 -- The U.S. Department of Commerce will open an export assistance center office at Bradley University, the first such office downstate, Commerce Secretary William M. Daley announced Tuesday.
The office, which will open later this summer, will help small to mid-sized businesses in central Illinois move into the burgeoning export business, Daley said during his keynote address at the annual Washington Day Banquet sponsored by the Creve Coeur Club.
"Small companies employ almost 70 percent of the manufacturing workforce in Illinois and we want to serve them better," Daley told about 530 people at the Peoria Civic Center. "I really believe it will be mid- and small-sized exporters who lead the way in...
