Circuit City's Same-Store Sales up; CarMax's Down.

Jul. 8 -- Sales at stores open at least a year rose 8 percent last month at Circuit City Stores Inc.'s core consumer electronics retail stores.

But those sales, also called same-store sales, fell 13 percent at the Richmond-based chain's automotive division.

Continued demand for new digital products, big-screen television sets and wireless communications helped fuel the sales at Circuit City, the company said. Overall sales rose 13 percent compared with the same month a year ago.

At its CarMax division, the decline in same-store sales was consistent with the company's expectations. Used-car sales also began to slow in June.
