Cosmetics Supply Firm Risdon Finds It Tough to Expand in Naugatuck, Conn..

Jul. 12 -- NAUGATUCK, Conn. -- Tom Dunleavy is someone who could talk for hours about makeup. After all, this is a man who has a giant portrait of a lipstick case on his office wall.

It's not unusual, though, for Dunleavy to enjoy chatting about cosmetics. He's president of Risdon AMS, a company that makes containers, spray mechanisms and other product components for the giants of the beauty industry -- Revlon, Estee Lauder, Avon and Loreal, to name a few.

"It's a very volatile business," Dunleavy said. "If the fashion industry decides to accentuate eyes over lips, for example, you'll see a big shift. We're always launching new products. And if the launches don't sell, there could be trouble."
