Kentucky Power Company Ordered to Refund $4.2 Million It Overcharged.

Jul. 16 -- Kentucky Utilities must refund more than $4.2 million to customers because it overcharged them for two years, state regulators ruled yesterday.

The Kentucky Public Service Commission ruled KU improperly overcharged customers within its service area for the cost of generating some of the power that it sells to other utilities.

Grant Ringel, spokesman for KU's parent company, LG&E Energy, said late yesterday the company had just received the PSC order. "We are studying it, and we anticipate making a decision about an appeal in the next few days," he said.

In February, the PSC ruled against LG&E in a similar case. LG&E has appealed.
