Aug. 4 -- Southwestern Bell lost ground in customer satisfaction last year, according to an annual survey by J.D. Power and Associates.
The San Antonio-based local-telephone company drew a less-than-average rating for the first time in the four years that J.D. Power has been asking Americans what they think of their local-telephone companies.
Bell's slide may be more perception than reality. "I can't say that they've fallen apart from last year to this year," said Kirk Parsons, director of telecommunications accounts at the Agoura Hills, Calif.-based survey firm.
Still, in areas where many phone companies received lower ratings billing, cost of service and corporate image Bell's ratings declined...
