Subaru to Launch Its Largest Television Ad Campaign.

Aug. 5 -- Subaru of America Inc., flush with cash and enjoying strong sales, is preparing its biggest television ad campaign.

The U.S. sales arm of Japan's Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. will unveil nine new commercials, starting later this month. Previously, Subaru has shown no more than six new spots in a year.

The surge reflects a big upswing in Subaru's fortunes the past few years. In July, Subaru sold 13,233 vehicles in this country, its best July sales results since 1987. For the first seven months, Subaru sold 85,478 vehicles, up 8 percent from the same period in 1998.
