New Owner Plans Expansion for Pittsburgh-Area Aluminum Casting Firm.

Aug. 12 -- Harmony Castings Inc., a Butler County foundry, got the green light to expand after an Alabama company purchased it this week.

Harmony announced yesterday that Ligon Industries, based in Birmingham, had acquired it for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition will allow Harmony to double the size of its plant and increase its work force by 50 percent, Harmony president and owner Don Weil said.

The 135-employee company has operated in Harmony since 1980, making aluminum castings for medical and high-tech equipment. When Weil took over in 1988, it was near bankruptcy. Business has turned around, however, with an estimated growth of 20 percent a year. The company estimates it will log $15 million in sales...
