Aug. 17 -- INVESTOR CAUGHT IN MIDDLE OF FIGHT BETWEEN BROKERAGES: The customers always write:
Walter and Teresa Moss dallied after their stockbroker called in July to say that he had left Merrill Lynch for the local office of J.C. Bradford & Co.
By the time the Mosses decided to switch, it was too late. Merrill Lynch won an injunction against Bradford temporarily barring the rival firm from accepting accounts solicited in violation of the broker's employment agreement.
Teresa Moss is furious. "I didn't go to Merrill Lynch because I wanted Merrill Lynch," she said. "I went there because of (the broker)."
To be sure, disputes like this one are almost as old as the brokerage business...
