Aug. 19 -- If David E. Fenske had not been so pragmatic three decades ago, he probably would not be sitting in the dean's chair at Drexel University's College of Information Science and Technology.

Fenske, who arrived at Drexel in April, oversees the nation's second-oldest library school, as well as undergraduate and graduate programs in information systems and software engineering. But back in the late 1960s, he was studying for a doctorate in musicology at the University of Wisconsin, and was looking for a job.

"I needed to support myself, so I got a job in the music library," he said. "And the job grew and grew and grew."
