Wal-Mart Reaches Settlement in Modesto, Calif., Sexual Harrassment Suit.

Sep. 1 -- An attorney for retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc. says the company has settled a sexual harassment lawsuit brought by a former employee at its Modesto store.

Lesa Waldo of Modesto claimed that she was repeatedly harassed by Rob Perez, her supervisor, during a four-month period beginning in November 1995.

In papers filed in Stanislaus County Superior Court, she alleged Perez made suggestive or vulgar comments of a sexual nature to her. She was seeking $50 million.

Attorney Gregory L. Spallas of San Francisco, representing Wal-Mart, said the company admits no wrongdoing and declined to reveal the settlement figure, saying only that it was nothing close to $50 million.
