Sep. 23 -- The '90s have finally replaced the '60s at the Houston Air Route Traffic Control Center, responsible for tracking aircraft through much of South Texas and the Gulf Coast to Alabama.

Federal Aviation Administration officials, including several from Washington, D.C., dedicated new air traffic control equipment Wednesday.

The new radar display system is more reliable, which the FAA says will mean fewer delays due to equipment failures.

The old, large steel structures that the new equipment replaced were designed in the 1960s. They featured monochrome displays, limited controllers' abilities to handle traffic efficiently during severe weather and peak times, and made upgrades difficult....
