Forklift Manufacturer to Lay Off Workers at Danville, Ill., Plant.

Oct. 1 -- DANVILLE, Ill. -- NACCO Materials Handling Group, a manufacturer of Hyster and Yale forklifts, will be laying off a few dozen people today.

But a spokesman for the company said it will begin manufacturing a new lift truck in mid-October that could bring some of those jobs back.

Gordon Carr, administrator for human resources at the Danville manufacturing plant, said the company will be replacing some existing models with a new model of forklift, resulting in the layoffs.

"We're still working on the final figures, but it's going to be in the 35-40 (employee) range," Carr said. "Some of these people that are going to be leaving are people that we put on extra for summer vacation. Most of the...
