California Department of Energy to Undergo Reorganization.

Oct. 6 -- Facing a Department of Energy shakeup, California national laboratory employees will have a voice from home in the debate: Rep. Ellen Tauscher.
Tauscher, D-Tassajara Valley, has been chosen as the top Democrat on a panel that will oversee a Congressionally-mandated DOE reorganization. President Bill Clinton signed the measure into law Tuesday.
The reorganization might mean significant changes for the nation's three weapons laboratories, including Lawrence Livermore and Sandia/California. The labs will likely report to different bosses within the DOE and might have tighter oversight from officials in Washington.
