Farm Bill Overlooks Mid-Atlantic Region, Senators Charge.

Oct. 7 -- WASHINGTON -- Sens. Rick Santorum (R., Pa.) and Robert G. Torricelli (D., N.J.) charged yesterday that an $8 billion agriculture appropriations bill before Congress badly shortchanges the mid-Atlantic region, providing too little assistance for farmers hurt by the summer drought and Hurricane Floyd's flooding.
Santorum described the attitude of other regions' lawmakers as "oink, oink, we want more for us."
He and Torricelli blamed lawmakers from the South and Midwest, who dominate the agriculture committees of the House and the Senate, for targeting a disproportionately higher share of agriculture aid to those regions.
